Across the Kardong La, the highest motorable
pass in the world, lies Nubra - the Valley of Flowers - at an average altitude
of about 10,000 ft. The valley is
drained by the great rivers Siachen and Shayok, and is an area of farms and
greenery with many willow and poplar trees.
Bactrian camels still graze the sand dunes on the ancient Silk Route,
while Buddhist Monasteries cling to steep hillsides.
Chamba Deluxe Camp is in the village of Hundar,
set within the Royal Garden of Hundar, known as the Zimskhang.and is on the
trekking route from Hundar Drok to Pheyang Monastery. Set amidst the apricot and poplar trees,
surrounded by alpine blossoms, sounds of the glacial streams flowing through
the camp into the Shayok River and the singing of many birds contribute to the
peaceful atmosphere. Camel rides can be
arranged through the famous sand dunes close to the camp.
The fifteen exclusive luxury tents, each
with its own veranda, has electricity supply and attached bathroom facilities
with hot and cold water and western toilet.
Freshly prepared vegetarian food is
served in the comfortable Dining Hall.
